Todai

Todai we went to eat sushi with Kevin's parents at this ossum sushi buffet called Todai. I know it looks like it should be pronounced like "today," but it is more like "toad eye." Gross. But it is not gross. It doesn't serve toad eyes. It serves sushi.
I really like sushi! I don't really like sashimi. I like the rolls of rice and avacado, fish, and yellow pickled radish. I love the sesame seeds on the outside, and I even like the seaweed covers. But I don't like raw fish... very much.
Apparently it's good when you dip it in soy sauce and wasabi. But there you have another problem: wasabi is gross. It is so potent and spicy that if you eat ANYTHING with wasabi, it covers up any other taste, and permeates your entire soul with its nast. I remember the first time I had wasabi: it was at China Moon in Los Alamos, and I thought (logically as it is in New Mexico) that since sushi has avacados in it, why wouldn't it have guacamole for the top? Yes, the fire and putressence that is wasabi filled my very being, and I had to spit it out.. or die. That may be some of the cause of my hatred toward wasabi.
So I avoided the wasabi and ate to my heart's content... and then some.

Blog it like it is

I wondered where you went "out of town this weekend."
Maybe I, too, would like Sushi if I could go with you to one of your favorite Sushi places in Provo or NM or wherever we happen to be together next. NM!! :D

Hey Chelsea! It's Sarah Moon (Huebner) from China. YEAH! I found your blog through someone else's that we went with and was so excited. I love sushi too, but can't eat the slimy shasimi stuff. Wasabi IS so strong. Every time I eat sushi, I go for it and it kills me everytime.
ANwyays, I have a blog too, but it's private, so I can email you an invite if you want. Email me at moon88sar@gmail.com. Is your email the chickenflag one?

Chelsea, I think with the exception of the fish I am like you. I hate wasabi, i used to make it when i worked at a Japanese place - and I didn't realize that I should have worn gloves the first time I made it. So about a minute after I was done my hands started to burn and itch, but it was the lunch rush so I couldn't really stop to figure it out. I had absorbed the wasabi through my skin and into my soul.
I love the rice, sesame seeds and wrappers - but I don't eat fish. I just love love love veggie rolls with avocado, cucumber and whatever else. My mouth is watering. I just bought some rice vinegar this week but am still looking for the seaweed wrappers. Yumm.

Yum I love sushi! Except I've never tried wasabi, and I never plan to. I like the kind w/ raw fish sometimes. I prefer it w/ just the veggies and/or crab though, but I always poke out the avacado w/ a chopstick so I don't die. Dipping it in the soy sauce is just delish.
