So anyway, we all pitched in tonight and cleaned up. Now our house wouldn't be mistaken for something in a magazine, but you also don't have to shuffle through toys and little bits of Play-doh all over the carpet.
While I was vacuuming, I decided that cleaning the house would be our activity for Family Home Evening. I know, I know. Don't you wish we'd invite YOU for FHE next week?!
But anyway, after we cleaned up and about 5 minutes before I left for Zumba class, we read a verse in the scriptures:
But anyway, after we cleaned up and about 5 minutes before I left for Zumba class, we read a verse in the scriptures:
"Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God."
It worked much better than I thought it would! This verse is actually talking about the temple, so we talked about our house compared with Heavenly Father's house (the temple). Then we talked about each little phrase in the verse, and how we do those things in our house, so our house is sort of like a temple.
It was short and sweet. We sang a song, had a prayer, and then we went on with our evening. I went to my class and the girls got to have a friend over. And our house looks lovely.

For FHE I often go for a run (Don't you want to come to my FHE? :)... I remember Emily Lyman talking in a Sunday School lesson about how her family would sometimes do Family Home 5 minutes. I'll always remember that.. you just do what you can do. Love your posts!
This is a great FHE for young kids! Sometimes when I'm picking up Lizzy Jo's toys, I ask her to help me. She usually ends up pulling out more toys to play with, but I'm trying to get her interested young (hehe, she's 8 months old) in picking up after herself.
You know what, we had a fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants FHE last night, and it was the best one we've had in ages. We were just improvising, but the boys actually seemed to get something out of it. It makes me want to not prepare, ever!
Glad yours was a hit!
