Co-op preschool

A few weeks ago, Penny joined a co-op preschool with three other kids from church. It's a great small group, two boys and two girls, and they're fun kids with fun moms. What else could you ask for?!
This week our turn rolled around. We have an open-topic curriculum, so we each just pick a topic and teach the kids about it. The first week they learned about weather, last week the planets, and this week I taught them about bones! Apparently we have a science theme going on here. Next time I'm planning on teaching about maps, globes, and going on a treasure hunt. It will be awesome.
So anyway... I left a few preparations until this morning. Our house was trashed, I had to go to the store for some craft supplies, and I still needed to print, glue, and cut out part of the craft. I knew I'd get my 6:30 wake-up call from Naomi, which gave me 3 hours to get ready. I was sure I'd be fine!
Does anything ever go as planned? No. Naomi came to my room at 6:30, but then she promptly fell back asleep until 8:00. And I'm no dummy. If the baby's sleeping, I sleep. So when 8:00 rolled around, I got out of bed, threw clothes on, and started breakfast. Naomi and I ate our cereal while Penny whined on the couch and refused to eat cereal-- or anything else I suggested. So she was super cheerful, and refused to wear shoes as we ran out the door to the store. I brought them with me and finally coerced her into wearing them so she could run through the tunnel to the store. I managed to get everything done before the kids came. My house looks lovely, but that's only until you find the laundry basket full of toys, books, and random crap from all over our living room. Which the girls did go find.
The preschool was very fun! We talked about bones in our bodies. We made rolls, mangling each one into a bone shape (or a pancake, snake, or whatever random shape they wound up with). I read/told them the story of Ezekiel and the dry bones, then we sang the Dry Bones song ("The foot bone's connected to the leg bone..." etc). This was all interspersed with the kids playing with toys and having free time. Then we ate rolls and played with our craft, putting together these little skeletons. Honestly, it wasn't the best craft, since it required my cutting it out for each one, and then I wound up sending it home for them to finish with their parents. I think they'll have fun with them once they're done, but they're not terribly creative. Oh well....
We only had one major blow-up. And it was my child. Penny and her friend were playing ponies in her room, and I heard some major crying and wailing. I went in to find Penny sobbing under her covers while her friend sat sadly playing ponies on the end of the bed. Turns out, they both wanted to be Princess Celestia, and Penny was NOT okay with that. I think the lack of breakfast may have played into this.
So I'm happy with how it went today, and I am very happy with the opportunity Penny has to make friends, go to preschool once a week, and learn about the wonders of the universe. I'm really excited to teach it once a month, too.

Wow, I want to join your playgroup! Planets and bones and weather! Sounds terrific. I teach ours again next week so I appreciate the ideas on themes. :-)

That is certainly the most brilliant skeleton lesson ever. And even more impressive that you whipped it up last minute!
