A couple weeks ago I made a doctor's appointment for Penny. I told her about it to give her a little heads up, and she cried. Then, a day before the appointment, I told her she'd have a doctor's appointment the next day. She cried again. I told her the third time an hour before her appointment, and she cried again! She asked if she'd be getting a shot, then she cried again.
Now for most normal kids, these would be tears of apprehension, fear, and dread. But Penny was upset every time that she couldn't go to the doctor's NOW! Even waiting until an hour before (which I thought would be close enough to start getting excited), was too far out. She asked if she'd get any shots, and since she doesn't need any until kindergarten starts next year, I told her, "No." She was upset and pretty mad-- because she wanted a shot!
When we got to the doctor's office, she was bouncing around on the exam table, giggling when they took her temperature, and generally being ticklish as they looked in her ears, nose, and mouth. Once they'd finished, she told the doctor, "Heart." (When she wants to show of for strangers, she reverts to baby-talk and one-word sentences. Ugh!) But yeah, she was telling the doctor how to do her exam.
I blame Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood. When Daniel Tiger gets a shot, he knows it's going to hurt for just a little while, so he sings, "Close your eyes, and think of something happy!" They sing it about 15 times during the whole episode. So Penny sang it a few times during her appointment.
She had four shots to get between now and when she starts kindergarten, so I let her choose if she wanted one, two, three, or four shots. She chose one. She sat on my lap, scrinched her eyes shut, and sang, "Close your eyes and think of something happy." She told me she was thinking about unicorns. And she didn't cry a bit.

Stuff I wouldn't mind getting for Christmas
- Twin-sized sheet sets for Penny and Naomi (matching? flowered or something pretty, not characters)
- Scrapbook pages
- Fun refrigerator magnets
- Fisher Price Little People Pirate Ship (for Penny.... though I would play with it too.)
- Cute Stationary-- I currently write letters on notebook paper ripped from the notebook
- Boy toys for William, age 9 months-18 months or so

We're headed to the doctor next Friday. Adam's getting his 4 school shots. I'm pretty sure I'll have to hold him down while he cries giant tears.
I'm fairly sure she's a little trouper all because of ur great parenting skill! :)
Hahahahaha!!! This is definitely a story she'll love hearing when she's older.
