It felt strange to celebrate China's National Day (the day the Communist Party established the People's Republic of China in 1949) in Kashgar. It feels so entirely non-Chinese! We had just gone to the livestock market the day before, and while there were more people than I ever imagined, there were far fewer here at the National Day celebration.
I was happy we happened to be in the center of town for it, though, since there was a dance performance, and I absolutely love Uyghur dancing. It was a fast dance, which is different than I'd seen before, but it was still really fun.
