Do babies ever nap when you plan for them to? No.
Does the weather cooperate? Um, no.
We got down to the beach in Kahalui, where we hadn't gone before. We set up our stuff, slathered sunscreen on, and played in the sand for about 10 minutes. Then the wind picked up, the clouds came in, and it finally started raining. Of course.
So much for beating the weather.
We ended up driving 20 minutes to Kihei. Penny played in her car-seat during the drive until konking out about 5 minutes before we got to the beach. Of course.
So we just ate our lunch at some picnic tables, while Penny slept in the car (which was parked in a handicapped parking space, by the way, but we were right there and would have moved).
We played at the baby beach we'd gone to before. It has plenty of shade, nice clean sand, and that rock wall that blocks the large waves. A hen and her 8 chickies were wandering around the area scratching for food. And the leathery-tan old people told us that it's a great place for snorkeling because there are turtles that hang out right off the rock wall. Maybe we'll have to bring our snorkel gear (and a bit of courage) and go see the turtles.
And speaking of leathery-tan people, my goal for this trip is to get some tan lines. I have no false hopes of getting my whole body one glowing golden color. And I never want to become leathery-tan and nasty. But I figure that without getting sunburned and peely, I'm gradually going to pick up some color for this summer.
I was thrilled to see a couple of small children the other day, obviously fresh from New York or some other cloud-laden place, who were whiter than I am. Yay! And this morning I noticed that my legs were finally picking up a little bit of color. So I told Kevin. His response? "You mean you have parts whiter than this?!"
I guess I still have a ways to go.

Haha! I love that Kevin said that to you! But just think, you pale skinned girls that stay out of the sun usually age so much better than us olive skinned girls who basked (and BAKED!) in the sun all of our teenage years and are already getting the premature lines on our faces to prove it!
I love hearing about ur adventures in Hawaii. It's so funny that u mentioned the Handicapped parking. It made me laugh. Good luck with the sun! My mother TRIED to get sunburned in Hawaii and it didn't work (she said her skin was used to being much closer to the sun). Good luck!
