Today we went to a new beach in Makena. When we got there Penny flopped onto her back on the sand. Instead of crying, she proceeded to lie on her back and just watch the goings on. And she got a bunch of sand in her ear.
Penny had fun playing in the big waves. We made her laugh really hard when we'd help her jump in the water as it came up and down the beach. There were some really big ones, and she got a facefull a couple times. It made her really happy, though, and she would suck it off her upper lip-- just like when she has snot running down her upper lip. How cute!
We left our beach stuff up out of the surf, but I guess the tides changed while we were frolicking in the waves. One of my (I mean, Penny's) sand toys got washed out to sea, never to be seen again. It was a yellow triangle spade from Ikea. It cost more than a dollar. We went back to our beach set-up to mourn our loss, but then we awkwardly noticed that the folks set up behind us in the bushes must have thought the bushes were more private than they were. There was a tangle of arms and legs belonging to a couple of people old enough (like almost as old as my parents!) to know better. Kevin and I tried not to stare in wide-eyed shock, but Penny had no shame.
We decided to go on a walk. There were some interesting rocks at one end of the beach, and we made a bee-line toward them. After a careful inspection, we walked back... and then continued to the other end of the beach.
Eventually, though, we went back and staked our claim. We had been there first, and if someone was going to leave, it should be them. They eventually did. Phew!

Glad you guys are still having a great time. A-ma keeps telling me how much fun Penny is. She's so cute in all the pics!
Woo wee! That's quite a day!
That's quite the experience! Good thing for pretty rocks!
I love hearing about all of your Hawaii adventures! It's fun to read about it because it brings back memories from when we were in Maui almost 2 years ago. I was 6 weeks pregnant with Joss and unfortunately I was sick the whole time. Salt water didn't help either...
Wow! A lot has happened to you guys since I last made my foray into the blogging world!
I too am surprised that it's cold in Hawaii! I thought it was supposed to be the same temp year round pretty much. How long are you there for?
Where are you thinking of going overseas and whatever happened with good ole nuevo mexico?
Chelsea, yes, we've heard about the reunion on facebook. I'm not sure we're going to make it though. We will (most likely) be back in Los Alamos sometime this summer!
Sounds like you are having a wonderful time in Hawaii! What an experience! It is a lot of fun to be able to follow you guys on the blog.
People, people. Come on! Everybody knows it only works if you're hiding behind a blue spruce. Just be careful of the pine needles. At least that is what I've heard...
I’m glad that you are all having a great time. Love the picture of Penny’s hairy upper lip.
