The long commute

This year on my dad's summer reading list, he had us read a book called Diary of a Wimpy Vampire. Just imagine that Edward from Twilight, instead of being smoldering and mysterious, was 14-years-old, pimply, whiny, and had no super powers. He depended on his parents to find him blood, and since he was still an ugly kid, he had to ask for advice to woo girls. His dad told him the best way to woo a woman was to save her life. But since he didn't have any super powers, he wrote in his diary, "What does he expect me to do? Buy her a bicycle helmet? Give her a pamphlet on how to quit smoking?"
Well, I don't have super powers, but I bought Penny a helmet. I'm such a cool mom!
Bike helmets are cool!

Penny didn't need any help putting it on.

Penny is all ready to head to preschool with Dad!

All the cool kids ride on the backs of their parents' bikes.
But Penny's the only one doing it in style!
When Penny tells us about her day at school, her favorite parts are when Dad drops her off in the morning and when I come to get her after lunch. I swear several hours go by in the middle, but for her, those are the highlights.

Kari loves her helmet. She will often put it on to ride her bike and then just leave it on while she plays.
