In college, I took Geography 101. And while it's very useful stuff to know, especially now that I'm TA-ing for a Social Studies class, it wasn't a particularly hard class. So during lecture, I'd sit with my notebook open, pondering what to add to my list of things to do in New York City.
I've never been there. I think it would be amazing to do all the stuff that I've seen on the movies: visit the Statue of Liberty, ride the horse carriages around Central Park, eat NY pizza, find the apartment that they used in Friends, go to a Broadway show.... you get the point.
But really, what is New York City besides the horrifyingly leftist so-liberal-I-want-to-puke capital of the world?
I read the New York Times sometimes, and I can usually get through a couple articles before the gag reflex gets to me. Today was no different. I read this article, which is a review of the Twilight movie. I plan on going to see the movie, and I just wanted to read it to see what calibre of movie we were talking about. Is it a halting effort to copy the book onto film, or did they make it a cinematographic masterpiece? I guess I will never know.
See, the reviewer said very little (tranlation: nothing) about the actual movie, except that she hated it because the characters don't have sex. And therefore it was a terrible movie with boring characters and no captivation at all.
Stupid liberal!
What is wrong with a high school love story where characters fall desperately in love with each other but don't sleep together? Just because the reviewer apparently has other views of what should happen in high school relationships, it doesn't mean that stories about people who exercise their self-control are worthless and boring.
Stupid New York!
Just because every story (movie, crappy book, TV show, etc) is set in New York where apparently EVERYONE sleeps together on first dates and has no morals-- it doesn't mean the rest of the world follows suit! And from the success of the Twilight books, it shows that romance can still be steamy and compelling without being graphic and lustful.

I read that too. It made me think about all those abstinence groups at various schools in New Mexico when I was going to school there. The people in the groups weren't necessarily "overly" religious and yet they believed in waiting. The idea that a movie is poor if it is lacking in sex is silly. And it really doesn't seem to bother the fans all that much. In fact, one would almost think that it makes Edward more attractive for him to want to wait. hmmmm
Oh, and New York isn't all bad: Clark is there, and he is pretty way cool.
Amen, sistah! LOL! Seriously, though ... think of all the classic old movies. They didn't have all the special effects, but they were GREAT! Oh wait ... that's because writers used to actually have a good plot ... not just throw in sex so people could get excited hormonally! Yuck! Good for people who still know how to write! (I haven't actually read the Twilight books, but all my friends LOVE them!)
now now chelsea... i don' tthink it is only liberals who think like that... i know plenty of conservatives who think the same way, plus i consider myself more liberal than conservative (but I like to think I am more middle ground) and I don't think the way this lady does... haha:) but i agree, it is very dumb that she has that view... who cares about sex! it ruins movies now a days.
You go girl! I think it's funny that every reviewer mentions that Twilight is "teaching abstinence." First of all, what's wrong with that? Isn't it about time there was a story where abstinence was the rule but the characters aren't religious zealots?! Secondly, she didn't just set it up to be all preachy and we aren't doing it b/c we're holy, it's b/c they CAN'T...it's too dangerous! Lighten up, people!
So I haven't read the books, I didn't see the movie, and I didn't read the review. But I agree... However I do disagree about New York-they are pretty leftist, but it's fun to visit. I have noticed though that a lot of people that live back east think that everywhere else in the world is just like them. When really the east coast is pretty uptight-those people need to relax a little.
I really loved ur comments. I'm also going to see the movie regardless of reviews... or the fact that I know there will be LOTS of kissing and icky touchy stuff. But I'd like to support it. Teenage romance is not exactly my cup of tea, but the fight scenes should be pretty awesome! Sometimes don't u just want to rip someone up?
I've yet to really like any movie critics reviews. What they think is good and what I think is good tend to be very different. If you haven't seen it already, everyone I have talked to said it is pretty good!
It's sad what has become the norm these days. I think the restraint in the books (and the movie) make it MORE romantic/exciting, not less.
