Some days in Beijing, I'd look out the windows and see the hazy, brown air barracading me into my hotel. If I had to go out on days like this, and especially if I rode the bus with the doors opening and shutting, and often with open windows, I'd come home with a hacking cough that would stay with me until the air cleared up. On days like this, I could clearly see the trees across the river from my room, but they petered off into brown haze before the end of the Embassy district.
Now imagine that same haze in Provo. We were just at the grocery store (after driving there in our air-tight car, thankfully), and from Smith's we couldn't see the mountains. Now, even from our house, we can't see the trees at the tops of the mountains, which is ridiculous, since we live right on the foothills.
Drat this blasted wind! And drat the encroaching desert sands!
