I always thought the ultrasound machine made noises, like some weird sucking kind of "wa wa wa" sound. But apparently it is truly ultrasonic. Either that or they just stick the wand thingie on your belly and then play a recorded tape of a past ultrasound picture.
Yesterday I got an ultrasound, and it looked... pretty much the same as any other ultrasound picture I've ever seen. It was a bunch of black and lighter areas, and the doctor would point out stuff and I still wouldn't be able to see it. Actually, we got a good look at her arm, plus a good cross section of the important bits. Her arm was up over her head, which made me laugh, because that's usually how I sleep, all sprawled out and flailing. Her head is small in proportion with her abdomen, which is weird seeing as how Kevin and I both have freakishly large heads. But hey, I say she can wait until she is born to grow her freakishly large head, and that would be FINE with me.
I'm trying to get in the habit of saying "she" now, since we got to see that our baby is a GIRL!! I had been getting good at saying "the baby" or "it" or "the baby" again, but now I have to get out of that habit. It's really fun to know we're having a baby girl.
Both Kevin and I wanted a girl, but we would have been happy with either. Kevin's mom was especially hoping for a girl, as she had all boys and has so far gotten two grandsons. It's about time there's a girl in the Fisher family! I have no idea what this little girl would look like. I know what girls in my family look like, but since Kevin has no sisters, it's hard to imagine what a Fisher girl might look like.
Baby girls are so cute! And there's so much cute stuff you can make or buy for a girl! I have patterns for dresses and a cute shirt that I've been wanting to make but haven't had the opportunity since most of my friends lately have been having boys. And I just finished (well, all but the binding) a blue and green quilt. I could give it away, but I kind of still want it, as it's pretty ugly to the untrained eye. The front is a sampler of all sorts of patterns I have in a book: churn dash, mother's favorite, Virginia reel, fox and geese, and all sorts of traditional patterns. I used about 6 different colors of blues and greens, each of which has a different design. So the front is super busy. The back is this freakin' awesome print of a cow jumping over the moon, except that the moon is from Van Gogh's Starry Starry Night. I love it! We will keep it, as there is no rule against girls having blue and green blankets. But maybe we won't wrap her in it in public until she has hair long enough for pigtails.
Or we could just get her ears pierced the moment she pops out-- cut down on any confusion. ;)
So we're having a girl, and we couldn't be happier about that!!

Stuff I wouldn't mind getting for Christmas
- Twin-sized sheet sets for Penny and Naomi (matching? flowered or something pretty, not characters)
- Scrapbook pages
- Fun refrigerator magnets
- Fisher Price Little People Pirate Ship (for Penny.... though I would play with it too.)
- Cute Stationary-- I currently write letters on notebook paper ripped from the notebook
- Boy toys for William, age 9 months-18 months or so

Yay for girls! I was so happy to have a girl first. Even though there is cute boy stuff that you will inevitably find because you're having a girl, I think it's more fun to shop for little girls. There's so many accessories to go with.
Congrats! That is so exciting. We just had our ultrasound a little while ago too and we found out we are having a boy.
Hopefully we will find some cute boy things, but I think baby stuff is so cute anyways, whether for girls or boys.
Have you thought of any names yet?
Congratulations! I love the ultrasound appointment. Not only do you get to 'see' the baby and personality a little bit but you are also half way!
I'm glad everything looks good. So so wonderful!
Show pictures of the quilt! Oh, sorry, as a quilter I get excited about quilts, perhaps I should have gushed about how exciting your news first! I am excited for you, I have no experience with girls, but I'm sure she'll be precious!
I'm so excited for you!!! pink and frilly! I'm so excited for you and hope all is well with baby and mom!
woohoo girls are great! congrats. did the ultra sound make it more real?
Congratulations! Girl stuff is so much cuter than boy stuff...that's awesome that you are so talented and able to make stuff for you baby...someday i would like to be able to say i could to.
Phew... now I know what color to make the blanket and booties.
I was going to say I need a due date and address, but since u are moving and u keep up on ur blog, I'm sure I'll know when to send it and can get an address then.
Its good to sew things now so u can get it all out of ur system. When she becomes a teenager pretty sure she won't want home made :-)
What are teenagers thinking?!?!
YAY! Yes, finally a girl in the family! I'll be excited to get some girly things for her! Yeah, I bet mama was super excited. However, before the ultrasound I said it would be good if you had a boy then mo and bahii could have a boy cousin to hang out with, but all is well!
Yay! Little girls are so fun! I had so much fun dressing Charley up and making her room all cute, it's not quite the same with boys-but they have some pretty cute stuff too. I'm so excited for you. I think that the sweetest thing is to see a daddy and his little girl together-I'm so excited for you!
Yeah a girl. That is perfect for you. She is going to have the cutest clothes.
YAAAAYYYY!!! A girl!!!! I'm so HAPPY!! Of course, I would have been just as happy for a boy grandchild, too! :-)
And you are now halfway plus one day! :D
Yay! Congratulations! Little girls are SO much fun!!
WOHOOO! Congratulations! You're having a baby! Aren't you glad you now know it's not an alien? And girls are great - that means "smaller than boys". We'll have to make sure she and Samuel meet shortly after his mission...he he.
The quilt I made for our nursery is blue, green, yellow and white and we are also having a girl. Nothing says a girl has to have pink. :)
Congrats!!
Congrats!! I just love girls...they are so fun even with all of the drama!
Congratulations Chelsea! Girls are so fun!! I am really excited for you guys! Also, I had to have about a million ultrasounds with Emmy and Kaylee because I'm high risk...and I still can't tell what the doctor is pointing at! Ever! I'm pretty sure they make it up! :-) Anyway, Happy baby!
Congrats! I was SURE Callum was a girl and very sad when I found out he wasn't, but I am now obsessed with my little boy. Still, girl stuff is the cutest. You lucky duck! :)
